Dental Sealants Springfield, MA

Overview

Dental sealants are an easy treatment used to guard against cavities and decay beyond daily care, like flossing at home. They are a slim, pliable material that is applied to the tops of the back teeth (premolars and molars). After they are positioned, dental sealants block out food particles, bacteria, plaque, and tartar to further prevent many dental issues, including cavities. Sealants can last a long time if properly cared for with a good home oral hygiene routine. Sealants not only improve your oral hygiene and prevent cavities, but they can also save money at future dental examinations at People's Dental. Talk to our dental team during your examination in our Springfield, MA office to decide if sealants are needed for you or your child.

Best Candidates for Dental Sealants

The best candidates for dental sealants would be anyone who is prone to getting cavities or oral diseases. Most often, sealants are recommended for children and some teens who may have a more difficult time maintaining a good oral hygiene routine. Dental sealant application is a fast, simple treatment that usually requires no anesthesia or sedation, which makes it an easy procedure for all patients.

What to Expect

At your consultation, our team will first need to assess your teeth to determine if sealants are a good treatment for you. Prior to the actual application, your teeth will be cleaned and polished to remove tartar, plaque, and bacteria. Then we will use a brush to apply the sealant and set it with a special light. After the application, we will ensure that the sealant has settled into the correct position.

I went for my consultation on Tuesday the 16th. Upon entering the office, it is very clean and I was greeted with a "happy to have you here" by Julie at the front desk. They were knowledgeable and welcoming. Xrays are usually a challenge for me since my wisdom teeth are pretty far back. Nurse Dawn and Dr. Kelley had me out in about 20 minutes with a referral to a surgeon to get my wisdom teeth removed and schedule a cleaning before getting up. Highly recommend 😃

Follow-Up

Following the appointment, you should be able to return to your normal activities. It is important that you follow a regular oral care routine, including brushing twice each day, flossing, and mouthwash. You should also avoid putting pressure on your teeth or eating sticky foods. With ideal care, sealants can last for many years. During your annual dental exam at People's Dental, a dental team member will determine if your sealants need to be re-applied.

Insurance Coverage

Sealants are a preventive procedure and most dental insurances cover part of the cost for patients under a certain age. Coverage will vary, especially in older patients, so a team member will determine your coverage by talking to your insurance and then calculating your personal cost. People's Dental accepts several payment methods and we can help you with low-interest financing for medical treatments if needed.
